Yes I cannes cannes..

I went to Cannes. Not just the city, the Film Festival.

I didn't see any movies, or red carpet events.
I didn't party on a yacht with P Diddy.
I didn't drink champagne or lay out on the beach.
I didn't go to the premiere of Indian Jones.
I didn't see Jack Black on the Kung Fu Panda stage.
I didn't pay 45 euros for 3 gin and tonics while sitting on wet seats. Oh wait..yes I did.

I thought I would start out with what I didn't do so you wouldn't hate me too much.

I did eat and drink at a private members club on the beach.
I did dance like a crazy person at another club.
I did see Paulo from Lost and had to catch my breath. He is by far one of my least favorite characters, but just the mere fact he had worked on the show stopped me in my tracks.
I did get stopped on the street by paparazzi wanting my photo. (That was weird but flattering I guess.)
I did walk right past Star Jones and yes her head is too big for her body.
I did have lunch at the same place as Dennis Hopper and he looked like KFC's Colonel Sanders.
I did hitch hike down the Croisette to get to a party at Baoli.
I did go to Baoli the restaurant/club where the Vanity Fair Party is held.
I did lay out by the pool in the sun.
I did have an amazing time and am glad I can tick that box. Next time I want to go because I have been hired to do make-up or because I am a respected yet not super well known indie recoding artist that has the title track to the new oscar hopeful indie movie of the year. A girl can dream can't she?

Three's Company..

The last couple of weeks have been fun filled. Quite a change from my usual sitting at home cleaning and being alone. Nate and Joy Yetton have been visiting from Nashville. This is a couple that does not let social expectations define them. They opposed the perplexed looks of their peers when announcing they would be heading of to Europe for 6 weeks. I applaud their sense of adventure and commitment to experiencing as much life as they can.

Nate loves music and breathes it in like pure oxygen. We all went to a performance of Blonde Redhead. I had never heard of them but they were awesome for lack of better, more descriptive word. The lead was beautiful and sang beautifully. I left the night wanting more.

They graciously let me tag along with them Paris. Again it was awesome. I love experiencing cities with new people. We literally walked the till we could not take another step and saw as much as we could see in our limited time there. And ate as many nutella and grand manier crepes we could stomach.

Having motion in the flat has been so comforting. Watching Nate and Joy interact with other humans is like watching a ballet. Their ability to choreograph fascinating conversation is mesmerizing. They are a unique layered couple that I have felt honored to have in our little London living quarters.

New York City!

I went to visit Ian in NYC while he is on tour with a Queen cover band. The band is actually amazing. The players are really good I should say and the guy that plays Freddie is amazing!! I wish I had some photos from the show, but I was not feeling well on this trip and didn't have the energy to retrieve my camera from the dressing room where I had left it.

Seeing the show ignited an interest in Queen and Freddie. I have done some research and have decided I am a Freddie fan. This decision has created a feeling of sadness in me as he is no longer with us. Although a he lead a hedonistic lifestyle he was an unbelievable performer with an incredible voice. I miss him.

The rest of the trip was spent doing somewhat touristy things in NY. It was freezing. Follow this link to the photos I did manage to take if you are interested.

October 30th, 2007

How beautiful is that? Can you believe that is what I see when it is sunny (rare) on my walk to the station (often). I am learning to take a moment and enjoy the sun as its presence here is limited. The clouds seem to own the airways and take full advantage of that fact. So moments like these are to be fully appreciated. Loved like a poem or a beautiful song. Then you save them and put them in your back pocket to be taken out on a rainy day.

Enjoy the sun where ever you are.

Willy Wonka's Dad

I hate the dentist! Not the trained professionals personally per se, more like I hate their tools. Those high-pitched squealing drills they use for everything! “Oh miss your teeth look lovely but we need to clean them. Let me get out my perfectly harmless but horrifically sounding tooth cleaner DRILL.” Ugg! It is the noise that I can’t stand. The horrible noise that sends chills down my spine and into my fingers that are usually gripping the arms of the dental chair so hard that I am sure CSI wouldn’t even need the grey dust to get my prints of them.

Today was my second visit to the dentist in probably 10 years and my second visit in England. Thank goodness todays experience was much better then the last time. The last time I went was so awful I thought I was being punk’d. The dentist chair, more like torture chair, was the grossest color brown ever dyed onto hard vinyl and was held together by brown packaging tape. Instead of cleaning my teeth with the swirly rubber teeth cleaning thingy that I had mentally prepared myself for he proceeded to drill out the plaque nestled between my pearly whites. You heard me right DRILLED! Why? Why did he do this to me? I protested with the some grimaces of pain and all he said was it would be over soon. I even said in a mumbled whisper "it hurts" but still no relief. Obviously this man likes to cause pain to poor little girls who I am sure in his mind deserve it because no matter how politely I protested he would not stop. I left feeling totally traumatised and swore I would never go to the dentist again in England.

I did call Ian and tell him about my appalling experience and though he did not offer me much sympathy he did say I should try his dentist and promised it would be better. And it was. This one did keep telling me I had a lot of fillings though. “Yea thanks I already know that, don’t need you to remind me, my husband who has zero fillings already has that job but thanks anyway.”

I now have an appointment on my birthday to get my teeth cleaned, with out a drill, and get a filling redone, with a drill. I checked. He won’t do it without one. Maybe I could get put under. Help me!!

The View

Martin and Nic were over the other day for some lunch and as the afternoon was winding down Martin looked outside and noticed the most stunning sunset I have ever seen. Conversation stopped mid sentence as we gazed thoughtfully into the eternal expanse of the sky. The photos as beautiful as they are cannot quite capture the intensity of color and depth. If only I could tap into a tenth of that creativity. God?

Pret a Portea

Cheating on my blog.

I have been neglecting this blog in favor a far more advanced and sophisticated website....Facebook. For those of you not on it, get on it. Apart from being the prettiest social online scene it is easy to use and most importantly for my short attention span it is fast. I can upload photos straight from iPhoto, check on what all my friends are up to and not just my superficial friends to have a higher friend count friends my actual friends. I love it! I really do. So join if you haven't and be my friend. I promise I will write on your wall at least once.

Singapore

Singapore photos

We are finally in asia. This week is Singapore at the very kid friendly Shangri-la hotel that sits right on the beach. Today is day 2 of our journey. THe sun is shining the humidity is thick and there was a giant cockroach on out balcony this morning. Yikes! Last night we slept for 12 hours to get over our jet lag, hopefully it worked. We started today with some yoga. Yes Ian did yoga and he liked it. And have had some breakfast. Heather they serve kim-chi for breakfast. Yummy!

I am off to the beach and Ian is off to load in for the show tonight. I will write again soon.

Fixtures and fittings

Our new toilet. I got the same one for upstairs and downstairs. It even has a european flush.

Master Bedroom sink. So cool.

Shower head in the guest bath walk-in shower/wet room. Ian finally is getting his wet room.

This is the faucet for the kitchen sink. The sprayer pulls out of the faucet.

Not as exciting is the kitchen sink.

Update on house

Not too many photos this time. I need to take more tomorrow. I have been busy busy working on it though. I am very excited to see the finished product. I ordered tile the other day which was a major undertaking. trying to work out dimensions and prices and what matched what. Drama. I still haven't done the guest bath but I pretty much know what I want. Tile is expensive
! Very scary to buy because you can't return it. Ugg! Wish me luck on the rest of the buying.

Belated Blog

This blogging thing is getting harder. I need to be better about getting stuff posted. Here are some photo's from Christmas and since. Kinda random I know, but it is a start.
